Report of the Board of Directors Board meets again on April 14th (second Tuesday of every month) - will discuss budget for next year and fundraising survey.
Report of PTA Committees
Nominating Committee Doug McMahon - we need people who want to join the board next year - need President (be the face of the PTA and run meetings), need Treasurer - contact Doug if interested in being on the board - PTA open to anyone who is a PTA member, grandparents, neighbors, interested community members.
Foundation Angel Van Note - auction was lot of fun, thanks to everyone who participated and helped with
class projects and packages - raised $60,000, money is still coming in ($4000 more than last
year).  Also got $4000 from Race for Receipts at Lloyd Center.  Also some people who do monthly contributions.
Most of foundation money is from auction.  Any fundraising ideas are welcome - questions/suggestions for Foundations, use e-mail link on website
Grant Committee Kathy Tell - $3000 in grants spent since last meeting: about $1000 went to math and science supplies, including the science fair, $2000 for books, including $1000 for the library + misc office supplies (details on budget and PTA website) Some items that were not funded were put on the BCS website for parents to contribute to The intent was to keep grants low this term since $10K spent in the fall, and there may be reduced funds available in the fall.
Volunteer Coordinators Lori Faha - community service opportunities - post on board upstairs for 5th - 8th graders, or teachers can post their needs as well May - Teacher Appreciation Week - Julie Heath leading it, will need parent help Starting to think about heads for committees next year - not board positions, but specific projects Bonnie Gee Yosick - need a new volunteer for helping with prizes for Reading Challenge.
Garden Committee Lynn Raube - chair - tree planting done on the Friday before Spring Break - next big event is 4/25-4/26: remove asphalt north of the play structure, digging trenches, laying irrigation, put in gravel paths - sign up sheets will be at both sites - free lunch to helpers Coming in May - waffle lunch and mason bees event. There is a new bulletin board with updates by the Fernwood office. Committee received $1K from East Multnomah Soil and Water (all donors to garden project will be listed in the newsletter) Kudos to Kathy Tell for managing grants process for garden; kudos to Lynn Raube for managing all the bureaucratic necessities for the past year to make the garden a reality.

Principal’s Report Linda Kapranos - received staffing FTE (Full Time Equivalency) on 3/17 - on paper, 0.3 FTE loss this year vs. last year Annie, Melissa, Linda committed to providing best opportunities K-8 + keep class sizes low at all grade levels (trying not to mixed age blends only for FTE purposes, because blends have curriculum requirements) balancing expectations - K-5 district wants 3 enrichment opportunities per week, 6-8, 5 per week FTE - 26.94 5 FTE for administrative: 3 FTE for administrators, 1 for sec in each bldg (each weighted .5), 1 for a counselor 1.5 FTE for kindergarten - fee for service for other half of k 19 FTE to grades 1-8th grades 1.44 FTE left for all enrichment other obligation to take into consideration: arbitration b/w PAT and PPS - now required to provide planning time for any 6, 7,8th grade teachers that are not self contained (ie: not teaching just one subject) – ie: planning time must be during school day, not after end of school day - so to cover planning time for 7th and 8th grade requires 1 FTE so how to provide enrichment k-8 but still need obligation for planning time enrichment - music and movement, band, PE, Spanish, library these allocations do not include foundation dollars Coffee chat on 4/28 Whether or not teacher can teach self contained classroom depends on individual teacher certification

Update on Principal Hiring School based committee for principal interview to be finalized by this Friday 4/3 - new principal will be named by early May.
