Below you will find links to forecasting sheets for our electives and enrichments for next year. As I indicated in a letter several weeks ago, thanks to the District’s support, we are able to offer Spanish as an elective to 6th-8th graders for next year. Sixth and seventh graders will take Spanish twice weekly, while eighth graders can elect to take Spanish I everyday. Successful completion of Spanish I will allow a student to receive high school credit. S/he would then have the option of enrolling in Spanish II as a freshman. Students also can elect to take Intermediate Band.
Over the course of the next school year, students will rotate through three enrichments that they will select from the offerings outlined on the forecasting sheet. Descriptions of the offerings may also be found.
In January, Ms. Dragich and I spoke with our students and many parents to ask what they wanted to see in our program for the 2010-2011 school year. Both groups told us they wanted more choice in electives, especially a world language. Students said they wanted the enrichments and electives to be mixed age and that they didn’t want to rotate as a group like they did this year. They wanted the opportunity to experience different groups of students. They also asked that p.e. be more often than once each week, which we were able to accommodate, as well. Students in grade 2-8 will have p.e. twice weekly all year long, as well.
We believe we have addressed the wishes of both students and families and have created a program that offers variety and choice. It is our true hope that these changes will result in us keeping more of our middle level students and that those of you who have applied to leave will decide to remain with us.
These forecasting sheets are due back to your teacher by Friday, May 14.
