Guest Speaker

School Counselor Cynthia Thomas presented “Bullying and Cyber-bullying”:

There are three roles in an instance of bullying: Bully, victim and bystander. While the act of bullying relies on an imbalance of power, the bystander has the most power.

5.6 million K-12 students in the USA are targets of chronic bullying.

Reporting bullying behavior is an important step in stopping it. Very young children readily report it, but as they age they grow less inclined to tell authority figures about it.

Parents need to be aware of sexting, flaming, e-mail harassment, spreading rumors, exclusion.

Parents should insist on being a “Friend” on their child's Facebook page so they can monitor the postings.
